Hey! I just had my first day at home, after my vacation. I got a lot to write about but thought I would start with this. I was called out for not putting Ghxsts into my Power Rankings, but the reason I avoided it the first time is I believe art projects like this have a lot more significance and it feels almost disrespectful to group them with 10k generative avatar collections. There have been lots going on behind the scenes.
I felt quite overwhelmed. I finally made a list of everything on my mind and will be working through it as fast as possible. Thank you to everyone who is reading this. I have a goal to hit 500 subscribers by the end of this month (less than 200 left), and a reach goal of 1k subscribers. I know it’s possible with your support.
As always… I will be transparent in everything I write. I highly recommend you do your own research as this is meant to be a gateway into learning more about these projects rather than a detailed report! If you would like to support this Substack please send eth or nfts to 0x0bb7bF1B64f79641f039184D51e3c65ADBf63a40 . This particular wallet will be used for giving back into the nft space (buying 1/1s and giveaways mainly). Retweets and shares of this would be appreciated if you enjoy the content! Let’s get started…
Ghxsts: Well. Where do I start? This was my first NFT. I was one of the earlier supporters, and wow has Gxng Yxng (the creator/artist) pulled off something extremely special. He has done what he has wanted to from the very start; he has provided insane value and returns to holders. I am not very educated in the current roadmap but I do know it’s very centered around airdrops for holding specific pieces. This is probably the first main art nft series and has absolutely established itself as the king. Lots of different price points to enter, but I would say at least a few Eth. Either way, check it out if you are unfamiliar. (I currently do not own any)
Haylos: A really unique art style with a dedicated artist. That is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Haylos. Chris Gee (artist/creator), has done something amazing with the progression of this collection. He has expanded it beautifully while growing the community at a sustainable pace. I did own some a while back and sold, eventually the floor dipped but last I checked it rebounded back to above 1eth for the Haylos while the expansions have some cheaper entry points. I would recommend checking it out if you haven’t yet!
Tribes: Heard of this project a while ago, never owned one but they had quite a boom before settling back down. The founder is quite active in the nft space, they publicly talked about their missteps on adding tons of utility which killed the project. Eventually, it was resurrected and the art still resonates with many. The community seems to be a huge part of this project just like Ghxsts and Haylos, I would recommend poking around and talking with Tribe owners.
Neon Kabuki: “Merging the world of Kabuki artworks with contemporary Neon compositions” A truly unique collection, I have not kept up with the project, but I do know that it was also resurrected and has held steady. The creator has expanded the series into another collection that has a completely different look. The cheapest entry is 0.15eth. (do not own)
The Negative: Alright, so this was actually a super cool concept. There were 49 shadows and 49 lights. There is a more detailed roadmap on their website and discord, but to me, the art was really interesting (in a good way) and the idea of reaching “equilibrium” was intriguing. Check out their community. (I did own some in the past but have not owned them for a while now.)
Kubiks: Alright so I have not really kept up here but I do know they were massively hyped earlier on. One of the biggest issues with the project was it was hard for new owners to get in, they started rewarding holders too early which started killing the project. I believe they have changed this and continued to expand the collection. I know some community members and have only heard good things. The entry point is 0.35eth. (I do have not ever owned any)
SMOTS: I love how much thought goes into this project. The artist really tries to immerse you into the SMOTS universe. They are one of the coolest creators I have had the pleasure of talking to. I kept getting sniped when I tried to buy, eventually got one of the “spin-off” pieces, and am just holding. If you love cool art with cool stories, check this project out.
Alright before we get to the honorable mentions, I would like to mention Ikaa. I did some consulting for them but they have some of the best art I have seen in a very long time, the first drop was on 08/04/2021. It is a team of two, a busy and extremely talented tattoo artist and Petar is running it. I would recommend looking into it, and if the art clicks, try to get one on a drop or the secondary. Here is my piece.
Honorable Mentions:
One thing I would like to say before I finish this off is that I have not been extremely in the loop with Indie art projects and this is basically just a collection of what I am aware of. I would take some time to look into each of them that clicks with you.
As always feedback is appreciated as well as sharing (the more subscribers the better)! Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Hey mate, great article. I am interested in these more than Pfp projects tbh. How are these marketed, obviously hard with all the noise from Pfp projects which naturally get more traction on twitter. Id like to get in on some that are upcoming.
