Wow, where do I begin? My last post was on August 9th; what an adventure it has been since then. After my last post, I went to Hawaii for vacation and then moved cities and never got back to writing as I ended up creating the Glitches at the end of September and just haven’t had the time or energy to write. But I am hoping to get back on track with at least one write-up per week, but ideally 2-to 3. I have learned so much in this space and can’t wait to share all my lessons! Before we jump in, I want to say thank you, thank you for taking the time to open up this article and read this. It means the world to me.
Disclosure: I hold three semi-rares
What is Nuclear Nerds?
Well, it is a collection of 8,999 nerds. Here is how their website describes the collection: “Nuclear Nerds of the Accidental Apocalypse isn’t just a simple collection of 8,999 male and female NFT’s; it’s a jumping-off point for a narrative story world that will be told through a series of future drops and unique mechanics. Our character’s needs, wants, hopes, dreams, and goals will guide forward. At the same time, token holders will help co-write the story.” The collection is very determined to market itself as a “full-blown story universe” rather than an “NFT avatar project with a story component.” This is super exciting; I have seen people say that it can become Marvel + Pixar.
A couple of months ago, I remember that they were pumping out a bunch of honoraries for “influencers” on Twitter before mint. I sadly didn’t get one (not too salty), but this was a huge push for them. I personally believe that they wouldn’t have sold out that quickly without doing that. So it was organic growth, and it was good growth.
They haven’t released a roadmap, but they already have tales where community members can write lore and submit it. The story of how the nerds came to be and their navigating the accidental thermonuclear apocalypse will slowly be revealed. The community will largely influence them. Essentially, the bet right now is on the vision and team, so the question comes down to can they execute? The team is fully doxxed with a background in commercials, short films, and storytelling, so it seems like they have a decent chance at building this out compared to many projects who try to create an entertainment arm with no prior experience in their respective industries.
Another cool feature is their dynamic NFTs. Dynamic tokens can change in appearance and utility after mint
This applies to nerds with mystery traits
6 total mystery traits: Archimedes, Caterpillar, Mary, Berzerker, Vulture, Schroedinger (260 total)
3 eth mystery trait floor on OS
Nerds with caterpillar trait recently “evolved” into a butterfly which caused a change in the art from a typical nerd to one with a darker background and colorful butterfly wings, as well as increased their rarity ranking
None of the other 5 mystery trait nerds have revealed
The majority are static (static tokens remain fixed in appearance and utility), so this adds some extra fun for the community to speculate, in my opinion. Community involvement has 3 levels of possible participation;
1. Hold nerds and observe
2. Respond to monthly writing prompts that contribute to the nerds’ origin story
3. Write lore that extends beyond prompts
Now that we covered who and what they are, let’s talk about the numbers and price action.
Stats
8,999 items
0.55eth floor
3.6K owners
3.7K volume
797 active listings
0.069 mint price
December 15, 2021 mint date
I think these are pretty solid numbers, nothing extraordinary, but slow and steady wins the race. Here are some more details about the recent price action:
Recent price action
The floor remained well below 0.25 for most of January
A pump on February 2nd where floor rose to around 0.47 before dropping back down to 0.3
Following the pump, the majority of sales were floor pieces with a consistent amount of above floor sales
Many non-floor sales were within 0.1 of the floor, which indicates buyers’ willingness to pay a small premium for better traits
Pump last Friday and Saturday (2/18-2/19) where floor rose to around 0.97
